Advance Care Planning

Advance Care Planning

Advance Care Planning is for everybody,
regardless of your current health condition.

It is the process of planning for your future personal care and allows you to make decisions ahead of time, and write down your wishes accordingly so that your loved ones can have greater insight into your wishes. It helps to relieve the stress and burden of decision-making for your family members and loved ones in the event you cannot decide for yourself.

The Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) allows you to indicate your personal choice of a proxy decision maker. This allows your nominated person to make decisions and act on your behalf should you lose the mental capacity to make your own decisions one day.

Lasting Power of Attorney

The LPA is a legally-binding document that empowers someone you trust to manage your personal welfare and financial affairs in the event you no longer have the mental capacity to do so (eg. Dealings with banks, CPF matters, where to live etc.)

LPAs in Singapore are administered by the Office of the Public Guardian.

Without an LPA, your loved ones will need to undergo the long, troublesome and expensive process of applying to the court to allow your financial and personal affairs to be managed on your behalf. An LPA is a logical component of a holistic estate planning process, complementing an existing Will.
